Myofascial Release Therapist, Massage Therapist
Professional since 1999
After finishing a Master’s program in horticulture, Diane began her study of massage in St. Paul at Sr. Rosalind Gefre’s School of Professional Massage in 1998 and opened her business in 1999. After 15 years in St. Paul, she joined Acacia Studios and moved her business to Cannon Falls. Diane has taken many continuing education courses over the years and her massage style reflects that. In 2008, she began her Barnes’ Myofascial Release training. It is now her preferred modality. Diane is a huge fan of stretching, yoga and other self-care practices. At every opportunity, she teaches her clients ways to care for themselves.
The fascial system of our bodies surrounds and infuses every cell, muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel and organ. Fascia also separates, supports, connects, and protects everything. It is an intricate, 3-dimensional web connecting all of our parts to all the other parts under our skin. Due to physical or emotional trauma, inflammatory or infectious processes or structural imbalances, fascial strain can form, which can slowly tighten over time. As it tightens more and more, it produces dysfunction further and further from the initial strain. This strain is restrictive and flexibility and spontaneity of movement are lost. Barnes’ Myofascial Release is the application of sustained pressure and movement into the fascial system in order to facilitate the release of fascial restrictions, thereby eliminating pain and returning normal function and flexibility to our muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels and organs.
On-Site Seated Chair Massage
On-Site Seated Chair Massage is an excellent benefit for companies to offer to their employees. It helps to:
- reduce the physical and mental effects of stress
- reduce the adverse effects of sitting for long periods of time, including tension headaches, sore muscles and tiredness
- relieve physical problems associated with repetitive tasks
- improve alertness and ability to focus
- increase good feelings about the workplace
- increase loyalty to the company
- leave employees feeling energized, revitalized and ready to work
Diane is available for hire by the hour (2 hour minimum) to give On-Site Seated Chair Massage. The many situations and events to which she has brought her chair over the years include private homes for girls’ night in, family get-togethers and scrap-booking parties; to workplaces regularly (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly) and for special days, such as Employee Awesomeness Day, departmental meetings and holiday parties; to numerous retreats, health fairs, career days and horse shows. Any time a group of people is gathered for work or fun is a chair massage opportunity.
Seated Chair Massage is normally performed in a specially designed massage chair (but can also be done on other chairs if the client can’t sit on the massage chair). Each client session generally lasts 10 to 30 minutes. Chair massage focuses on the back, neck, shoulders, head, arms and hands; no oils or lotions are used; and the client remains fully clothed.
Diane received her initial training in massage from Sister Rosalind Gefre’s School of Professional Massage in St. Paul, MN. She has attended many workshops and has taken many online courses in additional modalities since graduating in 1999. She has had training in the John F. Barnes’ approach to Myofascial Release (MFR), CranioSacral Therapy, Lymph Drainage Therapy, Acupressure, Visceral Manipulation, Vacuum Cupping, Reiki, Healing Touch, Healing Touch for Animals and Touch for Health.
She is continuing her study of Barnes’ MFR and is also currently studying Equine MFR.
